Gloucester Township Day

Scholarship Committee

The Gloucester Township Day Scholarship Committee is a 501C(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to providing college scholarships for high school seniors residing in Gloucester Township.

In June 1985, a small group of residents working with Ann Mullen (the mayor at the time) organized the first-ever Gloucester Township Day. The following year, the first scholarships were awarded from the proceeds. Buoyed by its initial success, the group incorporated into the Gloucester Township Day Scholarship Committee, a 501C (3) non-profit corporation that has been serving the community and students of Gloucester Township since 1986.

Over the years, the Committee has expanded its fund-raising activities in order to increase the amount of money awarded in scholarships. The Committee has sponsored several events over the years, some of our most recent include a Wine Tasting, a 5K Fun Run, and coordinating Gloucester Township Day. Past events have also included Teen Dances, a GloBall Golf Tournament, a Comedy Night, a Valentine Social, and a Craft Fair.

All proceeds from all fund-raising are returned to the community in the form of scholarships. To be eligible, high school seniors must reside in Gloucester Township, meet certain GPA and SAT/ACT standards, and be accepted at an accredited college or university. Winners are selected by lottery from the pool of applicants who meet the established criteria. The Committee solicits applications from all area public, private, and parochial high schools. Since our first Gloucester Township Day in 1986, we've had over 8,000 students representing nine area high schools submit applications.

In 1986, eight $500 scholarships were awarded. Overall, the Committee has awarded over 1400 scholarships totaling more than $1.2 million dollars for local Gloucester Township students.

An important factor in the long-term success of this effort has been the supportive relationship fostered between the Committee and the Gloucester Township Mayor and Council, the Gloucester Township School District, and the Black Horse Pike Regional School District.  This cooperative effort has greatly benefited the students of Gloucester Township. With their support and the support of our township residents, we hope to continue to grow and provide more scholarships year after year!
